Bangkok is the capital and largest city in Thailand, with over 8M inhabitants. And millions of visitors every year (more visitors than Paris even!). There is something for everyone in ‘Krung Thep Maha Nakhon’ (Bangkok in Thai)! So here we look at the many Bangkok activities available.

Nightlife – Bangkok Sex

In the Silom area of the city, Patpong soi 1 and soi 2 is where go-go bars first gained popularity in Bagkok during the Vietnam war.  And they now remain a huge attraction to travellers wanting to experience BK’s illicit nightlife and some Bangkok sex!

Nana Plaza

Bangkok sex

Not far from Patpong the self-titled “World’s Largest Adult Playground” is 3 story complex on Sukhumvit Soi 4. And with dozens of go-go bars and short-term hotels that rent rooms by the hour it’s clear how it got its name! And lots of opportunities for some nice Bangkok sex!!

Soi Cowboy

Named after a cowboy hat-wearing African-American who opened the first bar back in the 1970s. This strip of 30+ bars is popular with adult tourists looking for something a bit less hectic than Patpong or Nana plaza.  So with plenty of girls, shows, bars and restaurants it’s a great place to spend an evening.

Soi Twilight

Soi Twilight is the city’s HQ for gay go-go bars and is the go-to place for gay nightlife. And there are various shows, drag acts and comedy to choose from. So enjoy an interesting night out.

Koh San Road

Bangkok nightlife

Looking for a great night out without the ‘red lights’?  So look no further than the Koh San Road. It is described in the book and movie ‘The Beach’ as the centre of the backpacking universe. And it is a description that still holds true today.  Full of bars, budget hotels, street sellers, tattoo parlours and travellers from all over the world. So it is a great place to hang out and meet other travellers. A great place for your Bangkok nightlife.

Daytime Activities

Ride the Skytrain

One of the best ways to see the city and also once of the cheapest ways!  These airconditioned trains ride along tracks high above the traffic giving a great view of the city and will get you quickly to just about any destination you need.

Wat Arun Buddhist Temple

visiting a Buddhist temple

There are thousands of Buddist temples across Thailand. But Wat Arun may well be the most beautiful. Situated on the bank of the Chao Phraya River is this beautiful temple that stands at 79 metres tall. And the tower is covered in ceramic tiles and coloured porcelain making for an incredible sight when you catch it in the right light.

So this definitely should be on your list of Bangkok activities.

The Grand Palace

This is a must see as one of the Bangkok activities. Bangkok’s famous palace complex was built in 1782 and features several magnificent buildings. For 150 years the home of Thai Kings and the Royal court. The Grand Palace continues to have visitors in awe with its beautiful architecture and intricate detail.

The Floating Market – Damnoen Saduak

The original floating market and still one of the best, with dozens of wooden row boats full of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and food.  It is an experience that’s hard to replicate. And it is one of the Bangkok activities not to be missed.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

If you like shopping then this is a must-see.  Over 8,000 stall selling almost everything you can think of, from traditional Thai handy-crafts to modern electronics.  And fantastic value can be found as well if you are prepared to haggle.

Kickboxing – May Thai

Kickboxing is the national sport of Thailand and by far the most popular sport in the country as well.  So you will find bouts in many small stadia across the country. But the biggest fights are held in either the Lumpini or Ratchadamnoen stadiums in Bangkok.

Climb the Sathorn Unique Tower

It’s in the title, but this really is a unique experience, the Sathorn tower is a 49 story skyscraper that was abandoned near completion during the 2009 global recession.  Too big for any other developers to take on you can now explore it and even climb to the top for spectacular views of the city. Check it out as one of your Bangkok activities.
